The 2 Worlds of Æther Jacks
Setting
The setting of each gameplay session is flexible because the main gameplay occurs in dreams where the environments and occupants will vary greatly from Mark to Mark. The Overworld, however, is fleshed out and consistent with many factions and their syndicates vying for power.
Dream World
Imagine your Jack appears in an icy tundra surrounded by cliff faces. Winged beasts the size of boats float above and there is the sweet smell of baked goods wafting towards you. You look up to see that one of the creatures has a bakery built upon it's back. Could this hold the core memory you are looking for?

The Dream World contains endless possibilities for the game master to come up with strange and creative environments to explore. Gone are the days of trying to be logical with the world and how the players got here; puzzles can be wild and draw inspiration from all genres, characters can be exaggerated to their heart's content.
Overworld
The Overworld is a cyberpunk world of mega cities set in a futuristic earth in 2121, a place of corporate greed and anarchy where technology has advanced to the point that people's dreams can be connected.
General dream technology has been around for half a century and people now connect up to dream stations in order to regulate sleep and heighten the experiences felt within their dreams. Furthermore, people have become reliant on it, needing the dream stations to sleep. Pilots take advantage of this global connection, gaining access to whomever they need.
Pilots work for one of the key players in this world. As players you can ask yourself:

Do you work for the Takamori Institute? The founders of the Æther Link, who use you to advance their technology further.

Maybe you work for The Academy? A group aimed at maintaining order, who use you to pry for clues to solve crimes.
​
Perhaps you rebel against the higher ups and join Robin's Gang? A group where you steal from corporations and spread their wealth amongst the people.
​
Or join the Earth Shakers? Where you are tasked to collapse and destroy those in power while they sleep.
​
There are more syndicates to choose from, but this hopefully gives you an idea of the world your Pilots live in.
